  • Placing a Custom Order

Custom orders can only be placed through the factory or a showroom at this time. Please follow the  procedures below for general instructions.

GENERAL ORDERING PROCEDURES

  • Purchase orders should be sent directly to one of our showrooms.
  • All customer's own fabrics (COMs) should be shipped directly to our factories. Please refer to your "customer's order" form for the address or consult one of our associates to obtain the correct shipping information.
  • All COM must be carefully side marked with the name of the client placing the order and our order numbers (can be found in the top right corner of every order form).
  • To avoid delays, please call your representative to obtain an order number.
  • On demand, order numbers can be assigned prior to the receipt of the deposit.
  • Unless a cutting of the fabric is provided in advance, cuttings of all COM fabrics received will be sent for your approval. Production will not start until all cuttings are approved. Lead time can significantly be reduced if you provide a cutting of the fabric in advance with application instructions.
  • Please specify the direction, placement and proper side facing of your fabric.
  • All yardages listed in this website are based on 54" wide, solid-color fabrics without any repeat.
  • If your fabric is not 54" and/or it has a repeat, please contact your representative or refer to the yardage chart below to calculate an approximate yardage.

FABRIC RAILROADING

  • This is an important trade term that should be carefully understood by anyone specifying custom upholstery.
  • When the fabric is railroaded, the job is cut length wise into the bolt of goods.
  • For example, if a sofa is 96" long and it has a single seat cushion, railroading would make it possible to cut all the long pieces of fabric (such as the seat cushion, front board, inside and outside back) without resorting to seaming.
  • Oftentimes railroading fabrics will provide a more fluid and flawless look.
  • The pattern and the nature of the fabric will mostly dictate if railroading is applicable.

LEATHER REQUIREMENTS

  • All styles are available in leather.
  • Generally leather, irregular in shape and having natural defects, is sold by the square foot instead of the linear yard.
  • A quick and reliable method to convert yards to usable square feet of leather, is to multiply yards x18.
  • As an example, if a sofa normally takes 20 yards of fabric and we upholstered it in leather, we would need a total of 360 square feet.
  • 10% additional charge is assessed for COM leather application.
  • Though we take great care in estimating yardages, shortages may occur due to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Carlyle is not responsible for yardage shortages.
  • Carlyle will use it discretion with regard to fabric direction and application unless explicitly specified.
  • All special instructions must be explicitly written in your purchase orders.
  • All orders require a 30-50% deposit.
  • All balances must be paid prior to shipping including all freight and shipping charges.
  • We gladly accept MasterCard, Visa and American Express.
  • All dimensions and yardage requirements in this website are approximate.
  • All prices quoted are FOB Moonachie or Clifton, New Jersey.
  • Carlyle is not responsible for typographical errors and omissions.

YARDAGE CHART

For double repeats, like a stripe with a backround pattern, it is very important for us to know before-hand when qouting proper yardage for a particular piece. The number of seats and backs as well as the style of the same can often effect the overall yardage requirement.  Please consult one our design associates,  preferably with a full yard cut of fabric and a detailed despription or drawing of your desired piece or pieces.
